Imran Khan in Houston to discuss Pakistan’s future

Former member of Pakisitan’s parliament Imran Khan spoke about the future of Pakistan at a World Affairs Council of Houston luncheon to an audience of over 300 Houstonians, Khan discussed the current challenges to regional security as well as his plan for economic growth.

Known as an outspoken politician, international philanthropist, and one of the greatest cricket players of all time, Imran Khan is one of the most popular leaders in Pakistan today, according to a recent poll by the International Republican Institute.

Khan was elected to Parliament in Oct 2002, calling for an independent judiciary and full democracy. As chairman of The Tehreek-e-Insaf Party, (Justice, Humanity and Self Esteem Party), he was highly critical of President Musharraf and the ruling elites who dominate Pakistani politics. He is equally critical of the U.S., maintaining that American intervention in Northern Territories has led to many civilian casualties.

Khan and his party led the movement for restoration of the Chief Justice of Pakistan, who had been removed in March of 2007.
