India to Rome! Chai and Charity!

India to Rome! Chai and Charity!

Society with Ruchi

The Wortham House on South Boulevard was decked up like a newly wed Indian bride on a Wednesday afternoon. Flowers, rangolis and sarees adorned Dr. Renu’s Kathor’s residence but not for a wedding ceremony, it was a traditional Ladies Sangeet Afternoon with Indian delights to celebrate University of Houston President Dr. Renu Khator.

Ladies in beautiful saris and other Indian outfits gathered at Dr. Kathor’s residence for chai (tea), chaat (Indian snacks) and talk about Indian culture, saree’s, what the bindi means and many more frequently asked questions about Indian fashion and traditions related with it. The afternoon was definitely a treat to the eyes and appetite as Kiran restaurant displayed delicious treats like gazar ka halwa, barfi (Indian sweets), idli with tuna topping, vegetarian kabas was my favorite.

The afternoon was made possible with the efforts of high profiles including Sushila Agrawal, Chitra Divakaruni, Betty Hrncir, Nidhika Mehta, Carroll Ray, Beth Robertson, Lillie Robertson, and Lois Stark.

The sangeet could not be complete without a bollywood dance sequence followed by a fashion show.

Down by the galleria area on Wednesday evening at Arcodoro Ristorante Italiano two sexy ladies Miriam Habib and Cara Morales hosted an evening When in Rome to benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Guests happily joined the beautiful ladies for an evening of complimentary appetizers and live music as all went for a good cause. Miriam owner of Lexis Florist and Cara Houston Fashion were thrilled to put the event together as they seek out the title for The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s Woman of the Year!

Each year, in communities across the country, dynamic, passionate candidates engage in a spirited ten-week fundraising competition to earn The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s ‘Man & Woman of the Year’ titles, by raising funds and awareness for blood cancer research. The event was very fashionably put together. Spotted supporting the cause were Cha Champagne Bar owner David Sheller, Jared Lang, Russell Neinast, Carol Colin Young 2010 Woman of the Year LLS.

Overall a very exciting evening with raffle, music, fashion and beauty.
