Indian Doctors Association Gala

A Report by Ruchi Mukherjee

Work hard and play hard was the motto at the Indian Doctors Association Houston gala on Saturday May 14, 2011 at The Westin Galleria.

Some 300 plus doctors of Indian origin gathered to participate at this peacock themed annual gala that was very engaging with Lisa and Rabih from River Oaks School of Dance who enticed the very intelligent audience with some salsa, rumba and samba. If that was not enough Saidas Ranade tickled the gathering with his comedy while they also enjoyed some delicious Indian cuisine.

The event was very well organized and flowed graciously with dynamic emcees Mamta Singhvi and Raghu S. Athre. President of IDA Houston Dr. Ashok Tripathy, MD warmly welcomed all the guests and explained the growing membership of the organization and its charity work in India and US. The event witnessed the inauguration of IDA Member directory and an IDA Scholarship was awarded to Sannya Hede.

Notably well dressed were emcee Mamta Singhvi looked very elegant in halter black blouse in a peacock shade sari. Sannya was pretty in anarkali (a churridar style Indian outfit). Vanitha Reddy made the sari look interesting with a white hair band, that definitely suited her petite body frame. Indo American News journalist Kalyani Giri once again turned heads with her evergreen rich sari paired with a chunky piece of jewelry made at Shanti Niketan in deference to Rabindranath Tagore’s 150th birth anniversary that she bought at the IFest.

Present at the gala Guru Reddy, President, Harris County Medical Society, Dr. Ajeet Singhvi, President American Association of Physicians of Indian Origin, Dr. Bruce Malone President, Texas Medical Association, Dr. Veena Chandrakar, Roy Abraham from Pentafour Photography, Dr. Manju Shah, Sushma Paul Jois, Kingsland Dietitians group, Mona Parikh and many others with a good mix of young and mature crowd.
