Bistro Alex: Restaurant Weeks Experience

It is scorching hot with hardly a drop of rain this summer. However Houston Restaurant Weeks has no complaints! Not only is it expanding waistlines but is also expanding visitors at many restaurants. Bistro Alex Chef Roland, in a telephone interview, stated that the turnout this year has been excellent with a high increase in business.

Located inside the sophisticated Hotel Sorella, this restaurant brags of a great cozy ambiance with an excellent wine list and warm service. For the Houston Restaurant Weeks Bistro Alex paid good attention to spices, texture and flavors that impress all palates.

The three course dinner menu at Bistro Alex was one of my favorites as the emphasis was on the scallops. “This has been a big seller,” says Roland. I started off with a glass of Shiraz accompanied with Shrimp and Tasso Pinchos followed by Scallop and Shrimp: Seared diver scallops resting on top of a bed of roasted fingerling potatoes and shrimp dressed with bacon vinaigrette and crushed corn sauce.

The other popular item and chef’s favorite is Cast Iron Seared Prime Ribeye with maytag blue cheese lyonnaise potatoes and coffee ganache.

On a sweeter note, make sure to pick Brandy Cherry Bread Pudding with cinnamon ice cream and cherry sauce.

Tucked in amidst an affluent community, Bistro Alex is very welcoming, providing casual yet elegant bistro dining and service to Hotel Sorella’s guestrooms, Moroccan-style bar and lounge, and rooftop pool are some of the added attractions while dinning at the restaurant.

If you miss the Houston Restaurant Weeks menu for some reason, no worries but make sure to make a trip to the restaurant that dishes up, with impressive culinary skills, mouth watering must try’s like Turtle Soup and the Shrimp & Tassos Pinchos Crispy bamboo skewered shrimp & ham with golden pineapple slaw & crystal hot sauce butter.
