What’s ON! Houston Grand Opera Opening Nights

Society with Ruchi

The Houston Grand Opera Opening Nights (ON) for season 2011/2012 was a class act. The event was hosted on Wednesday August 31, 2011 at Houston’s latest see and be seen hub Tootsies and was a grand success with a whopping turn out of some 250 plus fashionistas.

“The main purpose of this evening is for everyone to have a great time, mix and mingle, shop and get a preview of the upcoming Houston Opera season,” informed Scott Ipsen, Associate Director of Special Events Houston Grand Opera.

Models walked around in lovely evening gowns to give the audience an idea for fall fashion and ‘What to Wear’ for the ball. Amongst the models were opera supporters Heather Pray and Divya Brown, dolled up in gorgeous elaborate gowns. Temptations were high at the event, keeping that in mind Tootsies offered its guests $25 off on any purchase of $100 or more.

Fall is officially here and so is the Opera Preview. This Fall/Winter and Spring of next year the Houston Grand Opera has some amazing shows in store for Houston art lovers. Shows on the list that caught my eyes: La Traviata, Don Carlos and The Rape of Lucretia.

The evening was made more interesting with various acts: Guests were given a fake gold coin and asked to vote for their favorite specialty cocktail created by area mixologists and inspired by HGO’s 2011/12 mainstage productions. The participants for the competition were Krafts’Men Baking, Fleming’s and Elegant Events and Catering by Michael. Also for the first time in Houston, a book signing of Lone Star Chefs: 13 Texas Masters Share Their Culinary Creations by John DeMers and Julie Soefer.

From tight form fitted tube dresses to long flowy skirts, Fendi shoes, Channel handbags, chunky necklaces or long chains you better plan ahead if you want to be a part of this classy hip event. Overall an excellent evening for socialites with a flair for fashion, drinks with a twist, and entertainment. For more information on Houston Grand Opera visit houstongrandopera.org/scheduletickets.
