Big In Texas! Rodeo Uncorked

A Texas-sized food and wine extravaganza was held on Sunday, February 19, 2012, at the Reliant Center. Rodeo Uncorked! Roundup and Best Bites Competition is a premier event that managed to gather a whopping crowd of nearly 4,000 guests who enthusiastically participated in this lively event, wining and dining their way around each of the sections and visiting with representatives of vineyards and wineries from all over the world.

In its ninth year, this event is one of Houston’s largest and most successful annual food and wine events. Delectable dishes and tantalizing wines were provided at every corner of the event.

Guests were able to savor the delights of award-winning wines from the International Wine Competition and taste signature dishes submitted for competition by area restaurants. Attendees were given five beads as they arrived at the event in their best cowboy attire, showing off their Texas culture. The beads were used for selecting their favorite dishes, from more than 60 culinary entries, by dropping a bead into a box that was provided at each table.

Some restaurants that were featured at the event were Sylvia’s Enchilada Kitchen, Tango Malbec (South American cuisine), Phoenicia Specialty Foods, and Narin’s Bombay Brasserie.

Along with restaurants, bakeries and deserts were featured as well. Fluff Bake Bar featured its famous bacon and chocolate chip cookie, and Ooh La La Dessert Boutique presented a wide collection of desserts.

A wide array of red and white wines from Texas, the United States, and all over the world were featured such as Equifera and Bogle Vineyards. Guests were able to enjoy taste-bud tickling wine while learning a little bit about the history of how each wine was created.

Attendees were able to find information on their favorite dishes and drinks, and where they would be able to purchase them after the show. Most wines are available at local grocery and liquor stores with prices starting around $10.

The highlight of the evening albeit the food was waiting to hear the announcement of the top winners in the International Wine Competition, including Grand Champion and Reserve Grand Champion Best of Show. Winners rode off with custom-made fashionable saddles, chaps and buckles.
