Tiger Ball Draws Large Audience Raising $1.4 Million

This weekend it was all about the Asia Society Texas Center. The center opened amidst their lavish Annual Asia Society Tiger Ball. The festivities carried on for good four days, however one cannot stop talking about the spectacular Ball that raised a whopping $1.4 million. The gala was a real display of Big Rich Texas, showcasing Houston’s wealthy multicultural high profile 1,000 guests.

Video interviews in order of appearance are Martha Blackwelder, Mayor Annise Parker, Dr. Renu and Suresh Khator, Rathna Kumar, Gene Wu, Divya and Chris Brown.

A colorful soiree of fashion and style from all over the world was on display as guests gathered to witness the spectacular completion of the $48.4 million dollar project. There are only three Asia Society buildings in the world, in New York, Hong Kong and now in Houston, Texas. Guests walked the red carpet while stewards stood by offering champagne and wine. After the VIP reception, guests proceeded to the seated dinner across the center under the beautifully decorated massive tent complete with drummers and dragons, in the heart of Houston’s Museum District.

The fashion scene at the ball was absolutely ravishing. Women paraded in their ethnic outfits and interestingly the sari was quite a popular choice among Americans. Bright vibrant colors – reds, blues and emerald greens shimmered.

Architect Yoshio Taniguchi mixed and mingled with the guests who were awed by his work. The gala was a successful sold out event chaired by Margaret Alkek Williams, along with co-chairs Sushila and Durga D. Agrawal, Judy and Scott Nyquist, Y. Ping Sun and David Leebron. The tireless work of Asia Society chairman Charles Foster, capital campaign chair Nancy Allen and executive director Martha Blackwelder was quite evident.

Amongst the high profile society leaders were consul generals from various countries including Consul General of India Sanjiv Arora, fashion icons Lynn Wyatt, Diane Lokey Farb, Carolyn Farb in a bright red lehenga (Indian outfit), Marie and Vijay Goradia, Chris and Divya Brown, Randy Sim, Mandy Kao, Miya Shay, Dr. Renu and Suresh Khator, Omana and Sam Abraham, Nidhika and Pershant Mehta and many others.
