Art of Leadership Soiree with Local Talent

After few minutes of confusion looking for Hanh Gallery on West Avenue, guests seemed to be perfectly happy to get immersed in the work of some talented artists at Hanh Tran’s studio/apartment stacked with her artwork. A very select invitation only audience had the privilege to enjoy a cozy evening with champagne, wine and cheese featuring Tricia Dewhurst, wife of Lieutenant Governor and US Senate candidate David Dewhurst for this Art of Leadership Series event.

Houston media and socialites were spotted rubbing shoulders with some of the state’s artists, including Kelley Devine, Morris Malakoff, Michel Muylle, Hanh Tran, and David Adickes. It was also interesting to find out about Taft McWhorter’s collaboration with singer Kristine Mills for her album cover. Houstonian Dewhurst spoke at the gathering about the importance of the arts in schools and her perspective on the Texas Cultural Trust’s board of directors.

Amidst a lot of artwork the focus however was on Hanh’s work and most of all her latest clutch collection: Hanh Bag. Each canvas clutch is hand-painted by the artist, inspired by Hanh’s abstract and post-modern impressionist pieces from works in her collection, as well as new original pieces inspired by nature, art and fashion! Each Hanh Bag is an original work of personal, wearable art, and a portion of proceeds from the sale of every Hanh Bag is given back to local charities and arts community. Enjoy your Hanh Bag and rock your day or evening look with wearable art! The seventh and youngest child of Vietnamese-Chinese immigrants, Houstonian Hanh Tran’s work with oil on canvas is based on self-study of the human form, nature, culture and emotion. “Art provides respite and renewal for most people,” said Hanh. “Painting, creating and sharing provide quiet comfort and establish a meaningful sense of community.”

Amongst the art connoisseurs were: Reyne Hirsch, Corbett Daniel Parker, Sulai Holland, Veena Chandrakar, Joel Luks, Chloe Greene, Tammy Greene Dowe, and others.
