Saving Lives and Celebrating Courage – Tahirih Justice Center’s Inaugural Houston Gala

The ballroom at The Houstonian Club was bustling with stories of courage and hope and a willingness to eradicate injustice as a very impressive packed audience gathered to celebrate the Inaugural Gala for The Tahirih Justice Center in Houston. The gala was a sold out event with about 350 guests, hosted at the lavish Houstonian Club last Saturday with many politicians, lawyers, doctors and other young professionals.

The Honorary Gala Chair Her Majesty Queen Noor of Jordan, Honorary Gala Committee Members: Ambassador Ebrahim Rasool and Rosieda Shabodien, South Africa made a keen effort to make the event a successful affair. The emcee for the evening was ABC 13 Reporter Sonia Azad who made the perfect tête-à-tête with the audience to keep them entertained and driven for the cause.

With a fine selection of auction items and a guest list including Sheela Jackson Lee, Al Green, Marty and Parvin McVey, Gordon Quan, and most importantly with brave speakers who have been victims of horrific crimes, the gala was most certainly two thumbs up. With dedicated staff members and volunteers focused on the mission to save lives here at The Tahirih Justice Center, an efficient, and strategic nonprofit organization, working to protect immigrant women and girls from gender-based violence through legal services, advocacy, and public education programs.

This year at the gala the organization honored three dedicated members of the Houston community that played a vital role in helping the organization provide life-saving protection for their clients with various resources, the Honorable Marty and Parvin McVey, Christine LaFollette of Akin Gump Charles Foster and Gordon Quan of FosterQuan.

Also present at the gala Shanthi Rubin, Lynette Lew, Rita and Surender Talwar, Peta-gay Cheh Ledbetter, Joseph O. Williams, and many others.
