The Partnership For Baylor College of Medicine – A Luncheon

With a talented moderator like Sharron Melton from ABC 13 at the Junior League of Houston, The Partnership For Baylor College of Medicine Luncheon whipped out a packed audience and an educational afternoon. This Educational Luncheon Series was hosted by Baylor College of Medicine on ‘What to Do In A Medical Emergency‘. The panel discussion was spearheaded by four speakers: Dr. Biykem Bozkurt, Dr. Angela Siler Fisher, Dr. Shkelzen Hoxhaj and Dr. Girish Bobby Kapur.

The focal point for the luncheon was to help the audience understand about the precautions to be taken in case of heart attacks and help understand the symptoms. With the help of efficient panel speakers the audience had a great interactive session. Experts informed that heart attacks are the leading killer of both men and women in the United States. More than 400,000 Americans die from heart attacks each year. While these numbers were scary the panel explained how getting emergency medical help immediately can dramatically increase the chances of survival and recovery.

At the event specialists explained the typical symptoms of heart attack. The things emergency physicians want people to know are:

  • Treatment is not first come, first served
  • You might need another specialist
  • Plan ahead for an ER visit
  • Post ER care matters
  • Emergency physicians are specialists
  • Be specific why you are at the ER
  • The ER is not for routine care
  • Only tests you need will be ordered
