New Beginings with New Orleans Auction House Launch Party

What a great way to end the month of November 2012. Lights Camera Action Houston Society News traveled all the way to New Orleans with none other than the lovely philanthropist, author of the acclaimed book ‘Diplomacy and Diamonds’, Joanne King Herring for the grand opening of the Susan Krohn’s New Orleans Auction House.

Julia Roberts played her in ‘Charlie Wilson’s War’ which tells the story of her improbable fight with the Mujahedeen to secure arms to use against the Soviet Union to free Afghanistan. Many rightly say that Joanne King Herring is much bigger in real life than any movie could capture. In her recent book, ‘Diplomacy and Diamonds’, Joanne recounts her amazing life as an international socialite, global political activist, and former Texas television anchor. She rubbed shoulders with movie stars, politicians, royalty, the world’s who’s who, including Ronald Regan, Grace Kelly, Brigadier General William F. Mullin, and Winston Spencer-Churchill, grandson of Winston Churchill, just to name a few. Joanne was made roaming Ambassador to Pakistan and received the
Quaid-e-Azam award, the highest honor given by the nation of Pakistan.

With a spectacular Garden District, Joanne King Herring calls it the city of romance, love and artistic endeavor, and it was the start of a new chapter for New Orleans Auction Galleries as Susan D. Krohn hosted a special preview event, with a special guest Joanne King Herring. We witnessed a great turnout with visitors from around the world with a chunk from Houston, friends and fans of Joanne. Guests enjoyed scrumptious appetizers, champagne and wide range of cheeses, and while they tried tasty bites they also feasted their eyes on some of the finest collections including Joanne’s jewelry.

I would call it a collectibles wonderland as there was something for everyone. While I strolled through the Ritz Carlton Hotel nibbling on beignets with Joanne, I learned many interesting stories and her love for the crazy Asian chair that she absolutely wanted to bid on.

Businesswoman Susan D. Krohn, now the new owner of the Auction House, located in the heart of the New Orleans Art District, is a dear friend of Joanne and a long-time auction devotee, Krohn has a vast knowledge of antiques with an outstanding team of experts and friends at New Orleans Auction Galleries. “I’m thrilled to open a new chapter for New Orleans Auction Galleries. We are putting a premium on building stronger relationships with our consignors and creating an even better experience for our buyers,” said New Orleans Auction Galleries CEO and owner, Susan D. Krohn.

Overall a thrilling experience to witness the launch and enjoy an incredible stay at the Ritz Carlton with lavish Christmas decorations and the company of Joanne King Herring.
