Spice It up with Healthy Indian Vegetarian Cooking
When Shubhra Ramineni, Chemical Engineer with an MBA, and local author of the award-winning cookbook, Entice with Spice, Easy Indian Recipes for Busy People, became a new mother, she became more aware of her food and the ingredients on food labels, and wanted to ensure her family eats locally grown, wholesome, natural foods. After all, her own mother is a dietitian, a great cook, and grows a wonderful garden, so Shubhra has a lot of appreciation of cooking with fresh vegetables using easy to find Indian spices to create delicious dishes. Shubhra set forth to create Healthy Indian Vegetarian Cooking, Easy Recipes for the Hurry Home Cook, which has a foreword from Chef Monica Pope, Executive Chef at Sparrow Bar + Cookshop. In her book, Shubhra shares easy, healthy, and interesting recipes for vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free dishes, giving you new ways to enjoy your fresh, seasonal, bounty from the farmer’s market. Anyone can enjoy cooking and eating healthy vegetarian food using easy to find Indian spices to make the quick and delicious dishes in this book.
The launch party for this beautiful book was hosted by the new Whole Foods Market in Montrose on the evening of June 25, 2013, the release date of her book. The fundraising party benefitted Recipe for Success, a non-profit organization at which Shubhra volunteers, whose mission is to combat childhood obesity by teaching healthy eating habits to young kids. The line dwindled down after two hours with over 150 people eagerly waiting to get their book signed by Shubhra. Guests also enjoyed listening to live music, sipped on wine, cooled down with Strawberry Lassi (a refreshing yogurt-based smoothie from her book), and nibbled on small bites including Sweet and Spicy Butternut Squash from her new book.
