Indian Film Festival of Houston Celebrates Cinema at the Asia Society Texas Center

A group of young professionals, journalists, artists and cinema lovers gathered on Sunday evening to celebrate 100 years of Indian cinema. Asia Society Texas Center lovers enjoyed the Indian themed decor at the venue while schmoozing with pretty gals dressed in Indian attire, and the gentlemen did a great job with fashion too. Jonathan Blake was spotted looking sharp in a blue sherwani (Indian outfit).

The Indian Film Festival of Houston returned for its 5th year in 2013. The festival showcased independent films and the most talked about film The Good Road by Gyan Correa, The Golden Hour by Jessica McGaugh and Roma Sur, Afterglow (II) by Kaushal Oza, and many others. Everyone was very thrilled about The Good Road directed by Gyan Correa being selected as the Indian entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 86th Academy Awards. The film has won the award for Best Gujarati film at the 60th National Film Awards. Rhythm India Dance Performance4The film is the first Gujarati film ever selected to represent India at the Oscars. Present at the evening reception was actor Ajay Gehi, who plays David in the film. “It’s really an honor and I am keeping my fingers crossed. It’s important that independent films have a voice. I think it is very difficult for Indian filmmakers to navigate the path to the Oscars,” expressed Ajay.

Adding fun and music to the Indian theme was DJ Samia (in an anarkali outfit by Poshak Boutique) spinning a mix of desi beats along with mainstream fare. Rhythm India once again charmed the audience with their wonderful Bollywood dance performances. Emcees for the evening were: FOX 26 Anchor Jose Grinan and Reporter Rashi Vats. Also spotted, Consul General of India in Houston Mr. Parvathaneni Harish, Charles C. Foster, Sutapa Ghosh (Director IFFH), Carolyn Farb, Samuel and Omana Abraham, Pia Pratap Anand, Sneha and Naushir Merchant, Farida Abjani, and others.

Lights Camera Action votes Jonathan Blake and Naushir Merchant as the most stylish gentlemen, always spotted looking well dressed for every occasion. Stay tuned as we will be back with ‘What’s In Their Closet?’.
