Saving Lives and Celebrating Courage

Saturday was not spent feeling guilty to be away from family as we were all proud supporting the Tahirih Justice Center 2013 Gala at The Houstonian Hotel. It was a ballroom bustling with mostly lawyers, philanthropists and a very generous group of people who believe in making a difference and standing up against injustice, cruelty towards humanity and support courage.

Emcee for the evening Sonia Azad, Reporter ABC 13 KTRK-TV, did an excellent job to keep everyone in cheerful spirits in between heart wrenching survival stories. The 2013 Tahirih’s Honorees were: Mrs. Mojgan and Dr. David Shin – 2013 Two Wings of Empowerment Award, Shell Oil Company and Motiva Enterprises LLC – 2013 Helping Hands Community Partner Award, Michele “Mitch” Gibbons – 2013 Advocacy Award, and the Courageous Voice Award was by Mekiya who spoke to the audience about her torturous journey and how Tahirih Justice Center played a vital role for her survival.

This sold out gala also witnessed recorded remarks by Whoopi Goldberg, a wide array of silent auction items, great deals on pearls, and free flowing champagne. Infused with performing arts, inspiring courageous stories, The Tahirih Justice Center 2013 Gala gets a Two Thumbs Up. The organization is a non-profit organization that supports the courage of immigrant women and girls who refuse to be victims of violence. Together with volunteer attorneys, physicians and interpreters they provide comprehensive legal services, social service support, and advocate for their protection.

The gala was generously supported by many prominent leaders in the Houston community. Spotted at the gala, Harris County Sheriff Adrian Garcia, Lynette Lew, Simran Rihal, Jacquie Baly, Navid Zanjani, Anne Chandler, Layli Miller-Muro, Founder and Executive Director, and many others. I am really impressed with your writing skills as well as with

the layout on your blog. Is this a paid theme or did you customize it yourself?

Either way keep up the excellent quality

writing, it is rare to see a great blog like this one these

    days.
